Unsere Reise/ Our trip through India

Kanyakumari:

Donnerstagnacht startete endlich unsere langersehnte Reise quer durch Indien. Als wir uns um 3 Uhr nachts aus dem Bett quälten, begaben wir uns in unser erstes Abenteuer. Dieses starte bereits mit unserer allerersten indischen Zugfahrt von Kottayam nach Kanyakumari. Erstaunlich reibungslauf fanden wir unsere Betten und sofort ein paar Stunden Schlaf nach. Im Gegensatz zu Deutschland muss man sich in Indien kein Proviantpacket für lange Zugfahrten einpacken. Alle fünf Minuten laufen die verschiedensten Verkäufer durch die engen Gänge und verkünden mit lauten Ausrufen ihr Angebot. „Chai, Chai, Masala Tea, Chai“; „Coffee, Kapee, Coffee“, „Idly, Vadda, Iddly“, „Pani,water, Cold drinks“, „Masala Dosa, Uppuma, Dosa“

Als wir am Morgen dann in Kanyakumari eintrudelten, verbrachten wir den Tag damit die Südspitze Indiens zu erkunden. Wir besuchten verschiedene Tempel, das Gandhi Museum und genossen die Abendsonne mit unserem geliebten Chai.

Finally- in the night of the 15th of December- we started our journey across India. Taking a bus to Kottayam was easy, but taking the train from Kottayam to Kanyakumari turned out to be a bit more exciting. First of all, Indian trains are amazing! Not only can you buy chai, coffee, snacks and real meals all the time from all the sellers who pace the train up and down, but you also have the chance to see the beautiful landscapes all over India in a very chilled way.

As we arrived in Kanyakumari safely we spent the day by visiting temples, the Gandhi Memorial and watching the sunset from the southern-most part of India. 

Kovalam:

Weitaus entspannter war unser zweiter Stopp in Kovalam, einem kleinen Beach Resort an der Westküste Südindiens. Unter Palmen sonnten wir uns viel zu lange und stießen auf eine kunterbunte Gruppe Inder am Strand. Sie machten verschiedenste minimale gymnastische Übungen und lachten dabei laut vor sich her. Der sogenannte Laughing Club nahm uns mit offenen Armen auf und so fand man uns kurze Zeit später am Schultern drehen.

Our second stop along our tour was definitly one of our favorites.. It took us only a few seconds to fall in love with the famous lighthouse beach which is bordered by a lot of palm trees. After a long day at the beach (including watching the sunset once again) we came across a big group of Indians making minimalistic sport excercises while laughing loudly. The so called Laughing Club welcomed us with open arms. Within a few seconds we found ourselves laughing along with them at the beautiful coast of our beloved Kerala.

Trivandrum:

Trivandrum als eher unspektakulärer Zwischenstopp, barg trotzdem viele Überraschungen. Von einem Moment auf den nächsten standen wir plötzlich in einem riesigen Kaufhaus für Saris und Churidars und Carla steckte innerhalb von Sekunden in einem für hinduistische Hochzeiten üblichen Brautsari.

Compared to other destinations Trivandrum was a quiet unspectacular stop. But while we went shopping for Indian dresses, the staff of the mall ended up putting Carla into a traditional Hindi weddingsaree. Whereas the both of us still need 40 to 50 minutes to put on a saree in the proper way, it took those two women only 10 seconds! We were pretty impressed...

Delhi:

Glücklicherweise hatten wir eine ortskundige Führerin in Delhi und bekamen so nicht nur einen Einblick in die typischen Tourihotspots, sondern auch in das alltägliche Leben in der riesen Metropole. Von Street food bis hinzu beeindruckenden Tempeln und Tums nahmen wir alles mit und ließen das weltberühmte Taj Mahal natürlich auch nicht aus.

Luckily we had a friend in Delhi who knows the way around the place. This way we had the chance to not only stop by the touristic places (The Taj Mahal was of course a must visit!) but also enjoyed visiting many local places too.

Jaisalmer:

Weiter ging es in die Wüste in Nordindien, näher an die Grenze zu Pakistan. Auf Kamelen ritten wir dem Sonnenuntergang entgegen und gönnten uns zum Heiligabend ein frisches Stück Kuchen aus der German Bakery.

The next stop was a small city called Rajasthan in the middle of the Thar Desert near the border to Pakistan. We took a ride on camels and enjoyed a freshly baked piece of cake at the German Bakery.

Goa:

Goa überraschte uns, anders als vielleicht viele von euch denken, nicht mit Party non-stop, sondern mit von Palmen gesäumten Sandstränden. Im sehr ruhigen Süden von Goa feierten wir zusammen mit vielen anderen Reisenden am Strand mit Lagerfeuer und Feuerwerk das neue Jahr.

Our hotel was located at a very calm part in the south of Goa. This way we did not experience the famous party life but went sunbathing at beautiful abandoned beaches.

Hampi:

Das kleine, eher abgelegene Ruinendorf Hampi ist uns schnell ans Herzen gewachsen. Man kann dort nicht nur die vielen Tempel, sondern auch die beeindruckende Landschaft bestaunen.

Our last stop was the small village Hampi in the state Karnataka. We totally fell in love with that place as it is filled with lots of ruins of temples.

Nun sind wir wieder zurück in Kattappana. Sonnengebräunt und von Schlafmangel gekennzeichnet können wir gar nicht fassen, dass unser dreiwöchiges Abenteuer jetzt schon vorüber ist! Indiens verschiedenste Seiten haben uns wieder und wieder gezeigt, dass man in diesem Land einfach nicht verallgemeinern kann! Und wir raten jedem sich einmal selbst von dem facettenreichen Indien überzeugen zu lassen..

Those three weeks of travelling went over way to fast! We cannot believe that our little adventure is already over.. Being back safe and sound in Kattappana we are busy again with lots and lots of work.
